Most Guests travel, least initially by plane. The most popular airport is Alicante-Elche (ALC) which is about 40-45 mins away by car.
The new airport at Murcia (or Region de Murcia International airport (RMU) to use full name) replaced the one at San Javier in early 2019 and is a similar travel time as Alicante. Murcia is still very much developing it's schedule and certainly out of season has fewer flights but always worth checking as the likes of Ryanair, Jet2 and EasyJet are increasingly flying to the new airport at Murcia.
Whether you are driving from one of the airports or from further afield, our property is conveniently located close to the AP-7 motorway and N332 so once off the main roads it is quick and easy to reach. Full directions from the airports are provided to Guests.
We generally recommend you rent a car and probably 7/10 Guests do so. But it is very much a personal choice of course depending on your circumstances and how you intend to spend your time here.
If you are happy walking, don't intend to venture too far and plan to sunbathe as much as possible, you may feel a car is unnecessary especially as we have an Aldi supermarket 5 minutes walk away and commercial areas for bars / restaurants within a short walk. Similarly, if you are visiting friends / family in the area, it may be they will ferry you around.
Alternatively, if you do want to explore a bit more then the Urbanisation is on a local bus route and taxi companies also serve the area well.
If you do intend to rent a car we will happily provide details of the companies we have used (and also been recommended to us), including the company that manages the property for us. They normally collect you from the airport and take you straight to our property, where your rental car will be waiting for you. Then they will return you back to the airport. This may suit people who want the convenience of a car to get around locally but prefer not to drive to/from the airport.
As a word of advice we suggest you be wary of some of the big, airport-based companies. What looks quite cheap soon looks expensive once you add in additional drivers, car seats and extra insurance. Also, some have very bad reputations for withholding deposits for 'damage'.
Obviously if you rent a car and collect it from the airport, you'll drive yourself. Or if you have someone collecting you then you can sit back and relax.
Alternatively, from Alicante there is a bus service from the airport to Torrevieja bus station and from there you can get a local bus or a taxi. Currently there aren't any public transport options from Murcia but may feature in the future as the airport becomes better established.
There are a range of companies that provide airport transfers so if you want a door-to-door experience this may suit you. As per car rental, there are a multitude of options so you should do your research but we offer some recommendations, including the company that manages the property for us. As per above, if you like the thought of having a car for getting around locally but not having to drive to/from the airport then they may be the perfect solution for you.
